Also seen in the lowercase "yuppies," this term applies primarily to members of the gen X set and originated back when the term "preppy" was popular. Alternatively, the gen Y set has adopted the term yeppies. It is an acronym used primarily in texting, online chat, instant messaging, e-mail, blogs, and newsgroup postings, it is also considered a form of online jargon or text message shorthand.
