vibe coding

Instead of coding a software program or algorithm in the traditional sense of a brogrammer slinging code, vibe coding is when programmers tell AI chatbots in English what they want a particular code to do and then edit what AI comes up with. Basically AI does the heavy lifting that once required engineers to spend hours reading through reams of code, however if experienced coders don’t review and understand each line of code, security vulnerabilities can slip in.

Historical perspective: Coined in 2024 by Andrej Karpathy, co-founder of OpenAI, he said "It’s not really coding. I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy-paste stuff, and it mostly works."
