TWAIN
Technology -or Toolkit- Without an Interesting Name (pronounced: twayne)
The de facto standard for scanners, nearly all scanners come with a TWAIN driver (as part of the hardware) that makes them compatible with any TWAIN-supporting software. You will see this term, for example, when you're purchasing a scanner, but unfortunately-and here's a welcome to the world of technology-not all scanner software is TWAIN-compatible, so be sure to check it out before you buy.
