steganography
a.k.a. WatermarkingA technology used to embed information in audio and graphical material so the content's origin can be determined (and it's destination controlled). It is implemented with lasers that carve tiny slots on the surface of CD-ROMs and DVDs.
Steganography is intended for use on digital songs, movies, and e-books, primarily to monitor intellectual property (some execs are also eyeing it as a potential advertising space).
