selfie dysmorphia

a.k.a. Snapchat dysmorphia

A blanket term for when people have plastic surgery to look more like their online selfies.

Because platforms like Snapchat and Instagram provide filters that let users smooth out their skin tone and change the shape of their features, this phenomenon refers to an obsession with the perceived flaws in one's face or body.

Historical perspective: According to a 2022 survey from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), 79 percent of facial plastic surgeons say that looking better in selfies continues to trend upward.
