An Internet connection for sending and receiving information via a satellite dish. It is an always-on connection that is not dependent on cable or phone lines for communications.
Historical perspective: As of early 2024, high-speed satellite internet connectivity can now fit inside a backpack. SpaceX’s Starlink is available for boats, planes, and rural homes, but it’s also coming to campers. A compact "Starlink Mini" is a dish about the size and thickness of a laptop that can deliver speeds over 100Mbps from practically anywhere on Earth, and the Mini kit consumes much less power than the standard dish, which means even a portable battery can power it for more than an hour. It also integrates a Wi-Fi router right inside the dish eliminating the need for a separate AC-powered router.
