Online sarcasm that evolved out of an actual necessity; since people tend to lie on social media, it became hard to trust anyone anymore so you say "pics or it didn't happen."

It's not so much a request for photographic evidence, it’s just saying, “Based on my experience on the Internet, I’m biased against believing anyone.”
