laptop nomad

a.k.a. digital nomad, techpat, remote technology worker

A person who works primarily on their laptop outside of a traditional office setting. Usually freelancers, "digital nomads" often work out of their home offices and are regularly seen typing away in cafes with hotspots. When living and working abroad, they are referred to as "techpats."

Historical perspective: Many countries suffered a severe drop in tourism revenue from the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. As a response to this drop in tourism,  countries began issuing digital nomad visas to encourage "remote technology workers" to come and stay, provided they can prove a minimum income requirement.
