Kilobits per second A modem's speed is measured by the number of bits it can transfer in a second. Modems rated in kilobits per second are now the standard. Bandwidth is also measured in Mbps (millions of bits or Megabits per second) and Gbps (billions of bits or Gigabits per second), depending on the medium and transmission method. Note: Kb is kilobit, KB is kilobyte.
