a.k.a. blackout, kill switch

When someone, usually a government, intentionally disrupts the Internet or mobile apps to control what people say or do.

FYI: If you really wanted to turn off the global Internet, you'd have to seek out people on every continent and every country because the Internet is so decentralized that there is no main kill switch.
