GenAI is an advanced form of artificial intelligence that goes beyond traditional AI capabilities. It is a subset of deep learning and uses complex algorithms and deep learning techniques to generate new outputs, such as text, images, videos, and even code, based on user prompts. 

Generative AI models use neural networks to identify the patterns and structures within existing data to generate new and original content. One of the breakthroughs with generative AI models is the ability to leverage different learning approaches, including unsupervised or semi-supervised learning for training.

Historial perspective: In 2023, venture capital investment in Generative AI was considered a new gold rush as it took over the conversation about transformative technologies. The biggest financial deal in the offing was that of OpenAI, the startup behind the AI-powered DALL-E image generator and ChatGPT chatbot.
