The portion of a program that interacts directly with the user. A front end can also be a separate program that acts as a user-friendly interface for a more difficult environment. For example, HTML is considered a front end for the Internet. Similarly, a LAN can distribute a front end to workstations so users can interact with a back end application on the file server.
