Dubbed a next-generation HTML, this is a mark-up language that describes how text and images are displayed on a Web page.
Developed by Netscape and the W3C, it is based entirely on industry-standard HTML and Java (featuring absolute positioning and layers, for example). It gives Web designers and Web developers greater control over the look and feel of their Web pages.
