default
A computer software setting or preference that states what will automatically happen in the event that the user has not stated another preference.
For example, your computer may have a default setting to launch or start Firefox whenever a GIF is opened; if you prefer to use Photoshop whenever you need to view a GIF, you can change the default setting in your preferences.
