Apps that provide companionship! The easiest example is online dating; there are also AI-driven companionship apps. 

Historical perspective: As of May 2024, companionship apps are one of the fastest-growing segments within the AI industry. For example, there is Candy.ai, Character.ai, EVA, Kindroid, Nomi, and Replika. 

There are also non-AI companionship apps, for example, Stitch.net is for adults over 50 and has been on the market since July 2014. It allows seniors to connect not just romantically but also allows them to search for platonic companionship, travel partners or fellow eventgoers. 

And there is paid companionship apps like Ohlala, a paid dating app that allows users to sign up and provide compensation in exchange for companionship.
