BBS

Online jargon, also known as text message shorthand, used primarily in texting, online chat, instant messaging, email, blogs, and newsgroup postings, it means "Be Back Soon."

BBS also stands for "Bulletin Board Service" an online meeting and announcement system for carrying on discussions, uploading and downloading files, and generally obtaining information and services. BBS also refers to a congregation of users gathered electronically by modem, where each person can post messages. They began as informal communities but now include political, commercial, adult, and many other kinds of categories. There are thousands of BBSs around the world, many of which are very small, running on a single Mac or PC clone, with one or two phone lines.
