Premier League Winners: A Complete List of Champions
The Premier League is widely considered to be the best league in the world. It’s grandeur and appeal is largely due to the competitive nature of the competition, with some of the biggest clubs boasting some of the best players the planet has to offer.
Almost all of the top talents have played in the league at some point, bar a few exclusions. Many footballers state that their dream is to play in the league, and this has made it attractive to audiences all over.
Which teams have won the Premier League?
Although the league is believed to be competitive, it is perhaps a little odd to think when you take into account the number of winners to have been crowned. When we think of other European leagues and the teams that often win, many do not enjoy them too much because they are often predictable. The Bundesliga is often won by Bayern (although this year looks different), whereas Ligue 1 is often PSG’s to lose.
La Liga and Serie A can offer a little more variety in terms of the overall winner, but most will have a good idea. The same can actually be said about England’s Premier League, too. Since its first season in 1992, there have actually only been seven clubs to have won the league. These are:
- Arsenal - won it three times in 1997/98, 2001/02, and 2003/04
- Blackburn Rovers - won it once in 1994/95
- Chelsea - won it five times in 2004/05, 2005/06, 2009/10, 2014/15 and 2016/17
- Leicester City - won it once in 2015/16
- Liverpool - won it once in 2019/20
- Manchester City - won it seven times in 2011/12, 2013/14, 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22 and 2022/23
- Manchester United - won it 13 times in 1992/93, 1993/94, 1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, 1999/00, 2000/01, 2002/03, 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2010/11 and 2012/13
Interestingly, an English manager has never won the Premier League title. A British manager has won it multiple times, though, with Sir Alex Ferguson and Kenny Daglish being the only ones to have achieved this feat.
Who will win the Premier League in the 2023/24 season?
Given the current Premier League season and the title race that is being ran, it looks highly likely that we will have one of the seven teams to have won the league before will add another notch to their tally.
According to the odds to win Premier League for this season, Manchester City are the current favorites and look set to win their eighth title. They are priced at 10/11. Liverpool and Arsenal are also in the running, being priced at 9/4 and 3/1, respectively.
However, with 11 games to go at this point in the season, there is still a lot of football left to be played. Each of the three teams will have extremely tough encounters, including matches against each other in some instances.
Arsenal and Manchester City will still be required to meet each other in a clash at the Etihad Stadium. The Reds will not have to play either of those in their final run-in during Jurgen Klopp’s last season at Anfield, but they will have difficult challenges of their own, including a trip to Old Trafford to play Manchester United.
What will happen during the 2023/24 Premier League title race?
One of the glorious things about the Premier League and why it has become a global phenomenon for football fans worldwide is that absolutely anything can happen on the pitch on any given day.
Due to the competitive nature of the division, teams can beat each other who may appear to have no right to do so. For instance, it’s not always a shock to see a team battling relegation pick up points against one fighting for the title. This could provide an interesting narrative to the eventual story that is being played out at the top, as it can have an impact on the players of each team.
We have seen poor results be costly in the past when a team is way out ahead at the top of the tree. Nothing can be taken for granted, and although we are unlikely to see an eighth different team be crowned champions, it does appear the race is well and truly on regarding recent results.
